New Partnership Expands Access to Home Dialysis

Vantive, a vital organ therapy company with a legacy of kidney care innovation, and Innovative Renal Care (IRC) are partnering to expand access to home dialysis, enhance the therapy experience, and empower patients and care teams through home dialysis care.

“Together with Vantive, we are reinforcing IRC’s focus on achieving our company’s mission to deliver more tomorrows to our patients, their families, and friends. Expanding home dialysis as a first-line option for more patients, ensures they can receive personalized care in the most convenient setting possible” stated David Doerr, Chief Executive Officer of Innovative Renal Care.

Serving over 16,000 patients nationwide, this new partnership builds on our existing relationship with Vantive. Gaining improved visibility throughout the home dialysis process is a key benefit that enables IRC to offer even more support for patients receiving peritoneal dialysis (PD).

Agreement Highlights of this Home Dialysis Partnership

Through this collaboration, Innovative Renal Care will use a suite of customized Vantive peritoneal dialysis (PD) products and services to support patients and care teams. These include:

  • Sharesource Connectivity Platform: A two-way remote management tool that lets clinical teams securely view and adjust home dialysis treatments as needed.
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Integration: Treatment data from Sharesource will feed into IRC’s EMR system, giving teams better insight into patient care and helping shape future home dialysis models.
  • PD Telecare Program: Offers remote support during the first 90 days of therapy and beyond. Nurses monitor treatment alerts, identify training needs, and provide patient follow-up to improve outcomes.

This partnership with Vantive is an example of our ongoing commitment to deliver more tomorrows to our patients, their families, and friends. Read the full press release here.

FAQs about Home Dialysis

What are the options for home dialysis?

There are three main types of home dialysis. Each requires a thorough medical assessment to determine suitability. They are:

Peritoneal Dialysis (PD)

  • Peritoneal dialysis is an option for patients looking for more flexibility and convenience. Unlike hemodialysis, which requires filtering blood outside the body through the dialyzer, peritoneal dialysis uses the peritoneum as a natural filter, which is a membrane lining inside the abdominal cavity. This type of dialysis can be done at home, work, or while you travel. If you’re interested in peritoneal dialysis, talk to your care team to determine if it fits your unique medical needs.

Home Hemodialysis (HHD)

  • HHD can be performed in two different ways. Conventional HHD is performed three times a week for three to four hours (or more) per session based on your prescription, or HHD can be offered more frequently, such as 4-6 times a week for shorter time periods. Shorter and more frequent dialysis sessions help reduce symptoms of headaches, nausea, cramping, and feeling “washed out” after treatment.

Nocturnal Dialysis

  • Nocturnal hemodialysis sessions are slower and longer because they are performed while you sleep. Most dialysis patients do this kind of dialysis 5-6 nights a week or every other night for approximately six to eight hours, depending on your doctor’s prescription and your normal sleep patterns.

Home dialysis vs in-center dialysis: What are the benefits?

Home dialysis offers more flexibility in your daily schedule, eliminates the need for frequent travel to a dialysis center, and provides the convenience of completing treatment in the comfort of your home environment. However, it does require additional support at home to help with treatments (e.g., a friend or family member).

In-center dialysis offers a personalized patient experience from start to finish. Each treatment is administered and monitored by a trained renal professional, reducing self-care tasks and doesn’t require any medical equipment in your home.
