What to Look for in a New Center

If you are considering transferring to a different dialysis center, knowing what to evaluate in a new center is a good place to start. The right fit goes beyond convenience. It includes the quality of care, the accessibility of your team, and how you feel day to day.

When evaluating a new dialysis center, consider:

  • Is the care team accessible and responsive?
  • Will you have regular contact with your physician, social worker, and dietitian?
  • Is the facility clean, organized, and running on schedule?
  • Does the center have strong Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) quality and patient experience ratings?
  • Do the location and schedule fit within your daily routine?

What Our Patients Say

Frequently asked questions

Whether you’re new to dialysis or have new questions, we’re here to help. These are some of the most frequently asked questions we receive.

No. Your place on the transplant waitlist does not change when you move to a new dialysis center. The waitlist is managed by your transplant center, not your dialysis clinic. Your IRC care team will continue to send updates and support your transplant status.

When transferring to an IRC center, a Regional INtake Coordinator will assist you with throughout the process. Your current dialysis center securely sends your medical records to your Region INtake Coordinator. This includes treatment information, lab results, medications, and care plans so your new team can continue your care without interruption.

Most records are transferred within a few days. In many cases, your new center will receive key information before your first treatment to help ensure a smooth transition.

Usually, no. Your IRC Regional INtake Coordinator will coordinate the transfer with your current center. You may be asked to sign a release form, depending on the situation.

Contact your IRC Regional INtake Coordinator who will assist you throughout the transfer process.

Innovative Renal Care dialysis centers accept a wide range of insurance plans, including Medicare. The IRC team will verify your coverage and let you know if there are any concerns before you transfer.

You can usually transfer at any time, including mid-month. Your IRC Regional INtake Coordinator can help address any timing or coverage concerns.

You may still be able to receive care, but your out-of-pocket costs could be higher. The IRC team can help review your options.

Medicare generally covers dialysis at Medicare-certified centers nationwide, but coverage may depend on your plan’s network. Your IRC INtake Coordinator can help verify your coverage.
